Our name, Tano, means “five” in Swahili – inspired by Africa’s legendary Big Five: the lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. These animals represent the spirit of the wild – strength, resilience, and wonder and they embody what a true safari experience is all about. We chose Tano as a tribute to this heritage and to reflect our mission: connecting Canadians to the magic of Africa through authentic, unforgettable safaris.

As the founder of Tano African Safaris. This dream started long before I ever called Calgary home.
Born and raised in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, I grew up surrounded by the rhythms of nature, family safaris, and the stunning beauty of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Zanzibar. Experiencing wildlife up close — elephants roaming, lions roaring — instilled in me a deep love for the land and its creatures.
Now living in Calgary, Alberta, I understand the challenges Canadians face when booking a safari: international payments, time zones, and trust issues. That’s why I founded Tano African Safaris — to make these barriers disappear.
